For many of us with weight loss goals the holidays can present a serious challenge.

Right now it's scary to think just how many days that is, right down to the second. But however you look at it, it can seem like you're staring down a double barrel: Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the winter holidays are fast on its tail. The frenzy that most of us associate with overindulgence, whether it's in our collective wallets or in our waistline, is upon us.

It's the perfect time to pause and give some thought to your goals.

Does the phrase, "New Year's Resolution" make you shiver a bit? Plan ahead this time by owning what you're working for, right now, whatever time of year it is.  Secret bonus: This is the hardest time of year to do this, so if you've read this far you're 90% there.

Our top tips for getting through the holidays:

This may be obvious, but think ahead: A lot of dealing with our energy around food is mental, and attitude is key. Resolve to making yours strong, and keep your motivation top of mind. Hang a photo somewhere where you'll see it daily and it will help you through the rough patches. Go for long-term goals over short-term gratification: Long-term gratification is the result of patience, fortitude, commitment and dedication to one's personal goals, but as you come to realize slowly but very surely, it's truly awesome.

Fitness. Keep it up. Even if you just show up—do that. That's 90 percent of success.

Want to cheat? Keep your temptations small, and honor them.  In other words, have a small, but fantastic treat, and enjoy every single second of it.

At this time of the year we spend a lot of time hosting and being a good guest. When you're the host, give some thought to keeping your food groups separate. People can choose the right amount of sauces and condiments for them when they're offered separately. When you're a guest in someone's home, as always avoid the real heart-attack inducing heavy creams and sauces, and think of your proper bento portions.

Don't let your mood sway you. We all have bad days. Fall off? Get back on. Forgiven. Simple. ...just remember, a glass of wine fits into the medium lidded container. Where's our winking emoji?

Big picture: Stay motivated. What are you doing this for? Whatever your goals are, they're worth it—if it can feel like a slog, just remember: you're slowly becoming a different you, and a whole world is readying itself for you.
